Material Girls, Mexico City
Overview
The Material Girls is a group of creative women dedicated to making beautiful works of art with fabric. They make quilts for beds, for wall and table decoration, to celebrate holidays and also to help raise money for organisations in need.
To date they have had two events in which we have had an exhibition of their work and demonstrations of quilting techniques. The main feature of these shows has been a raffle where, along with smaller items they have raffled a queen size bed quilt that has been collectively made by the women in the group.
They are planning another exhibition and raffle for some time this fall, and will also be teaching a beginner class in September for those who would like to learn the art of quilt-making.
